It all started with giant bags of green coffee beans (as it often does with coffee) gifted from Mariam's dad. We, Armin and Mariam (a.k.a. Susu and Watari's parents), had no idea what to do with all the raw coffee overflowing from our closets, cupboards, and car. It was too much coffee for us to drink alone, so the idea of a business sprouted.
We started looking for a local roaster to partner with. Alas, it was difficult to find anyone willing to take on the sheer amount of coffee we had along with their other accounts. Luckily, Portland is a city rife with coffee opportunities. We set off to coffee roasting school, determined to share the beans with as many people as possible, even if we had to roast them ourselves. (Susu and Watari were *not* as enthused about a coffee venture, being highly sensitive to caffeine, but they were there for us emotionally.)
Equipped with the needed knowledge, we began to roast the coffee we hid in the dark parts of our house. So begins the first chapter of Min.
We believed (and still do believe) that our business's main focus should be on doing good. Giving 25% of the profit back to the communities we source from is a small extra step we're taking to thank the people our business wouldn't exist without. We hope our mission can inspire you to buy this wonderful coffee. And if you decide you do not want to buy anything from us, we hope you will at least find another local cause to donate time or money to. To quote the great millennial classic that is High School Musical: "We're all in this together." (Armin wants everyone to know that it was Mariam who chose to quote HSM.)
We are so glad to welcome you to our online shop and hope we can meet in person one day.
